If you do not have an account at Ancestry.com, you can create a free account there, create your family tree and export the GEDCOM to reimport elsewhere.

To have good date data in your exported GEDCOM, dates in your tree should be in genealogy format: dd mmm yyyy. Or, just make sure that you've followed the Ancestry suggestion for date format when you entered dates.

To export:

• 1. Log in to your Ancestry account.
• 2. Under Family Trees, click the tree to export.
• 3. Under Tree Settings, view Manage your tree.
• 4. Click where it says Export Tree.
• 5. Save the GEDCOM file to your computer.
