A Topographical Dictionary of Ireland (Lewis, 1837)

This parish was the seat of the O'Hurley (Ó hUrthuile) family in southwest Cork.

????Luth Ith (ancestor to O'Driscoll) ruled the Corkalee territory.
1254Crom O'Donovan was killed in a skirmish with herdsmen of O'Mahonys near Inis an Bheail (Phale).
1585Ballynacarriga Castle was built, presumably by Randal Murley (Hurley) and his wife Catherine O Cullane.
1712Thomas Daunt acquired Kilcaskan.
1814McCarthy castle demolished. It had one time belonged to McCarthy Glas, then to McCarthy Reagh.
1815Catholic church was built in Ballynacarriga.
1894Secretary to Daniel O'Connell and great-grandson of Thomas Daunt, William O'Neill Daunt died.
