Ibane & Barryroe is a small barony in County Cork, named after a branch of the Barry family called "Barry Rua", or "Red Barry."
Lord Arundel took the territory from its ancient inhabitants; from him it passed to the Red Barrys, whose family seat was Castlefreke. The O'Flynns were another family situated here.
From JCHAS:
Ibane, "the fair territory," and Barryroe, from a branch of the Barrymore family, in one small barony. The district comprised Hy-Cobhthach, O'Cowhig's or O'Coffey's country, a branch of the O'Driscoll's, and Pobble O'Hea, a branch of the O'Donovans. It was first wrested from its ancient possessors by Lord Arundel, styled "of the Strand,", and from him fell to the Barrys, whose chief Barryroe (Red Barry) had his seat at Rathbary, now Castlefreke. The sept O'Flynn is also seated in this district. The seaport town of Clonakilty, in this barony, was founded by the first Earl of Cor, and in, 1613, received a charter of incorporation. The coast is studded with remains of small castles of the O'Cowhigs.
